We got a huge huge treat on Sunday night of
Thanksgiving weekend. Sir Edmund Hillary was in town and he gave a talk
in McMurdo. In a community like this, he was about the biggest celebrity
we could get to come to town. Oh, and celebrities don't come to Antarctica
all too often. There wasn't room for everyone to make to the talk, and
seating was on a first come-first serve basis... Well, this was such
a big event that no one wanted to miss it.... So, there was a line....
Many of us waited for many hours in this line. It was like waiting to
get tickets to see your favorite rock star. The line started in the early
afternoon (the lecture was at 8:00). This right here was the front of the
line. There were a lot of games, books, knitting projects, and who knows
what else. I sorted photos from the day out snow-sliding... It all was
worth it to listen to Sir Ed talk.
